Today, we drove to the school Tansy will be going to, Logan High. It's the school that Alison & Nina went to. It's painted an olive green & is a medium sized, one story school. Being Sunday, no one was about. We peeked into one classroom that had Maori stuff. Must've been their social studies class. Alison showed me how far they had to walk home if they missed the bus because her mom didn't drive & her dad wouldn't pick them up. It was a long, long ways. They didn't get to do any extra stuff after class & didn't get to have friends over so Alison & Nina were their own best friends besides sisters.
Their home is up a windy hill. Earlier Nina was telling about a old van they used to have that the door would open when they went up hill & close when they went down. Alison almost fell out one time when they went around a corner. Nina grabbed her clothes & pulled her in. Alison thought Nina was trying to push her out.
Went to the Dunedin City Art Gallery. Saw their permanent collection that included a Monet & a collection of Francis Hodgeskin whose watercolors were fantastic.
Came back to Jo's for dinner then Alison, Jo, & I went to the movies "Calendar Girls". It was real funny & heart warming. Jo had seen it before & enjoyed it just as much the second time.
We drove over to Ted's house in Leith Valley, I think it's a little town
nearby. He has the fanciest, richest house I've seen so far on the trip. I didn't take the tour of the house with the others which I wish I had but their living room & dining room had a rich colored, smooth hardwood floor, the windows & ceiling gave such an open airy feeling. The furniture was modern & comfortable & tastefully decorated.
Everyone was there; Kinsie, Louisa, Robin, Isaac, Ted & Ita, Frank, Nina, & Tansy, & two girls that were staying with Ted (I don't remember their names but they're training for the Olympics), 14 of us in all. A few torches (flashlights) were handed out & we all clambered into three vehicles & drove over to a "walkway" trail. It was quite dark out. We trekked up a path to a little canyon with a trickle of a stream running through. When we turned the torches off, both sides of the canyon walls sparkled from glowworms! Hundreds of them. So many that it looked like the stars. Someone said they spotted the Southern Cross.
Another great day!
