Frank tried out the little shower shack first. He had to explain how it works before I could use it. To the right of the door was a little washing machine. To the left, a generator under a shelf. Against the back wall was a toilet & the shower. Next to the shower was a battery hooked up to a switch that turned on a hot water wall unit. Quite a gizmo. The battery was right in the way of water splashing from the shower which made me uncomfortable. The water was a bit hot.
Packed up & drove to a spot on the bay that was gorgeous (Anaura Bay). The ocean water was a deep greenish blue. We walked on the sand in bare feet. Not many shells. Walked a long way. Tansy & I made a sand castle. Nina & Frank walked quite a ways further.
Drove along the east coast. Had lunch in Gisborne. Saw the Millennium Wall. It looks similar to the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington DC. It has names of people that saw the first light of the millennium, year 2000.
We traveled through Napier, the "Art Deco City". Was hoping to see unusual sculptures or architecture but didn't. There may have been some there but we didn't go exploring.
Tried to visit a friend of Frank's, Dave, in Hastings but he was not home.
Camped at Havalock North. It seems so strange to drive into a campground & onto the grass to wherever we want to park.
